This year St. John the Baptist Romanian Orthodox Church in Kitchener celebrates its 50th anniversary as one of the oldest Orthodox Churches in the Region of Waterloo.
Since opening its doors in 1967, the Church welcomed thousands of Romanians who came to Canada to find peace and prosperity. The Church became a place where faith, language, traditions and heritage were carefully nurtured. From the humble beginnings to today’s prosperity, the Church was the very first place where new immigrants went to look for shelter and advice. Today, the Church is a vibrant and inspiring place, served by hundreds of volunteers led by our parish priest. In celebration of this milestone, the Church is organizing an anniversary banquet celebrating founders and members – raising awareness of the contribution of St. John the Baptist Romanian Orthodox Church to the well being of the Romanian community in the Region of Waterloo.
